Hello everyone!

So NY Comic Con is over, and I’m back to normal life again. Work starts up again on Tuesday, and in the mean time I’ve been kicking back and doing some writing. You’ll all be happy to hear that the reception our upcoming comic, Ode, has been really positive, and lots of people have already seen some of the art for it online (including Brian Lee O’Malley, which is amazing!).

But you’re not here for Ode, despite my writing it. You’re here for H&tW, and I don’t want to disappoint you!

I’ve been sneaking notes on the reboot as I’ve been writing Ode (both share some pretty heavy concepts that I’ve yet to introduce, mainly the Fade, which is a name I’ve decided to call the world between worlds in which the Library exists), and I have to say, I believe I have a final layout for the story of the first book of H&tW.

Most of the elements are exactly the same, with, as I’ve said, a few small changes that will end up majorly impacting the story. But don’t fear, it has everything the original had and more: Magic, adventure, the Library, time travel, dream travel, gypsies, the city of Khem, other worlds, and more. And have no fear, Divi continues to be a major part of the story, as is her ties with both Oliver and Abigail. I’m super excited to start writing, and I hope you are too!

Now all I need to do is decide how to tell the story!

Tim

Hey everyone! Sorry about the radio silence, I’ve started a new job as a guide in central park, and it has been a bit crazy (in a good way! ) I have had a lot of time to think about H&tw, and have a ton laid out. That being said, i’ve run into a bit of a block, and am working through it. In the meantime i’ve been working a bunch on Ode with Annie, as well as a new story for fun. Look for more soon!

Look for new updates soon

The process I will be doing to begin this reboot is as follows.

Step one: Write a new story arc. This is almost complete.

Step two: Illustrate a new story arc. Less complete, but on its way.

Step three: Begin reworking the original story to fit the changes I’ve decided it needs to work. There is basically only a few changes, but it’s enough to have to rework a bit of the opening. We’re going to do that thing you see in a lot of animes where we dive right in, and the origin story follows a few chapters later. In this case, the origin is the story that you know so far, only slightly different. As I’ve said before, I trust you guys to forget what you know, and enjoy the ride!

Step four: Find a place on the site for all of the older pages to be posted in order, but off the main page. I want them to be easily accessible to you guys. I may be changing things to how I think they should be, but I’m not the kind of author that then pretends the other never existed. I know you guys are attached to the early pages, and I’ll always keep them available for you guys! Just don’t get confused! haha

Thanks for being so cool! More on this later, everyone.

Hey guys, site still down

by Kings on August 1, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Hey everyone. I apologize that the site is still not working, we are having some heavy technical issues. Annie and I might cave and just hire someone to fix it. I don’t have any major updates at the moment, but I’m still considering it. That being said, we have to talk.

You guys have been majorly supportive of me in all of my endeavors, a guy couldn’t ask for better readers! I know our fanbase is small, but those of you who are here are dedicated and totally awesome. I don’t normally like changing stories once I write them, in fact as you know when I started this comic, it was an exercise in NOT doing that, but I am completely in love with these characters, and I need to do them justice. We’ve had this talk before. Anyway, I know you will all be super supportive when I reboot the story, I just only ask that you suspend your disbelief and basically forget the details you think you know. I really am only changing like a couple of things to make what I have planned work, but to do so will require a different beginning, and I need to guys to start reading fresh. I know you wont have a problem as long as I’m posting SOMETHING, right?

When the story does go back live, it will feature my art, and it will be done using Annie’s cintiq, which gives an entire new edge to my style. It actually makes me feel like I am not the worst ever, so I’m down at giving it a shot. Here’s an example of what might be a new cover! Let me know what you guys think!

(Don’t let it be said I never listen to what you guys say, either. You’ll notice Abby appears physically unchanged, despite her lack of pony tail!)

Hey all. Rather upsetting news- at 6am this morning Honey & the Whirlwind experienced a server error.I was told to delete comic press and reintall.. and what happens?! All the comics are missing. Tim was trying to uplod a really amazing picture of Abby and Oliver. He’ll post it later today so some good will come of that.

I’m trying to recover all of Tim’s comics, but we might have to start from scratch. Never fear, we have all the comics.  More info ASAP.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

PDF?

by Kings on May 18, 2012 at 6:23 pm

I just wrote a bunch of stuff to you guys in the comments from last weeks journal, but really quick; how would everyone feel about short story length arcs, updated section by section with illustrations after the arc is completed, but then once the last page is posted, it would go up as a pdf which would cost $.99? I may even include extra stuff in the pdf. I’m constantly torn between my belief that stories should be free and my painful desire to eat, so this way, I could give you guys some extra stuff in addition to putting it up for free? I’m also looking into putting the completed stories up on the nook. Thoughts?

Thank you all!

Thanks everybody for all of the incredible feedback, you guys are simply the best. I know it’s difficult as a comic reader, as I am one myself, when major changes arise, but you guys are not only super supportive but also extremely helpful and understanding.
That being said, i think I’m at a point where I have enough of what I want to do ready that I can begin writing again! The story is going to be almost completely different, but also so similar that at times I wonder how it is possible to change something so much without changing it at all. For instance, I found a really cool way to keep Divi around, though her character is different, because most of what she was is put into Abby. I really think you guys are going to love it. Even though change is scary, mostly because I realize I hadn’t even really explained a whole lot yet (the story was way bigger in my head! ).

(Sorry I was typing this on my phone when it cut out on me, I will now continue from an actual computer). I think the best way for me to start this story, and the fastest way to make it available, is to do it as a novel, which was my original intent. That way I can take my time with the comic aspect, polishing up the script etc., but the problem is I really want you guys to read it before all of that. Here’s what I’m thinking (though this might change because I had the idea at like 5am); I will begin writing the story, and since it will be in segments, I can probably finish a good chunk at a time. I will then be able to put chapters up online for you guys, hopefully accompanied by illustrations. If anyone would be interested in the illustration aspect, how it would work is that I would have the chapters finished ahead of time, so I would be able to ask around for art to accompany what I wrote. Not a comic, I know, but I’m hoping it would be enough to keep the site going with you guys.

Again, just a thought, and once it’s complete, I can get a printed book with all of the illustrations. Hope to hear some feedback! This is a huge maybe right now, but my main priority is giving you guys access to the entire project.

Okay, and now off to work.

Oliver

So I’m going to be using this site to gather feedback about my story, my characters, and H&tW in general. As most of you know, I am currently working on revamping the entire series, streamlining it if you will. To briefly explain why to those who missed the last post, it was too ambitious of me to assume I could simply include every little element of story telling that popped into my head as I went along, the whole while saying “I’ll find a way to tie it all together”. There is that, my loss of control over who the characters are, and my regrets for where the story started in the first place.

I promise all of you that this project will be completed. I plan to have a completed story, possibly a novel (or series of novels) which will then become a graphic novel. Additionally my goal is to create a story that can be told though prose as well as by comic, with one shots for both. This, obviously, is MORE ambitious than my previous attempt, but I have two things to help me through it.

One: I know what I’m doing now. The last run literally had my flying by the seat of my pants. This will be better, I promise.

Two: You guys. When I started this, I was more or less alone on it. Now I have you guys to bounce things off of, to help me through it, and to give me feed back.

That being said, I was hoping you guys could tell me what your feelings were about Oliver. I’ve put so much thought into reorganizing Abby that I put off Oliver’s character to be the last thing I thought about. What do you think about him, what do you think drives him, what makes him tick. What do you like/not like about him? Obviously some of these I know my answers to, but that’s not always what come out on the page. I want to hear your thoughts!
