Still working out the kinks, for instance will Abby be wearing Divi's outfit? Probably not. I just think it's cute.

If Abby is still the girl he met on her eleventh birthday (while he was 21) then Poor Oliver. Abby showing clevage like that has got to be bad for his blood-pressure: The confused and muddled mess in the back of his head would be thinking one part fatherly, one part brotherly and one part red blooded male I’d imagine. What those three perspectives would think in that situation would conflict lots.

I’ll be tweaking the dynamic slightly. I want them to be slightly closer in age without ruining what they have going on. I have kind of a long term plan, and as much as I love their current ages, it was starting to look weird for when she is 20 and he is 30, and so on. Like I said, a lot will be different, but much will remain the same, when it comes to what’s important. I hope you guys will bear with me.

Personally the *fusion* design isn’t doing it for me, though if she won’t actually be wearing Divi’s costume then it’s really just a hair colour and age change! I hope I’m not being a stick-in-the-mud, but Abby’s design was great.

I sort of expected that the fusion of Abby and Divi would be in terms of backstory and maybe personality, with Abby still looking broadly as she did before, just a little older. There’s nothing wrong with tweaking art to fit a revamped story, but the long brown hair wasn’t broke, and it maybe didn’t therefore need fixing.

My inner scientific pedant would also like to point out that someone of gypsy/Egyptian descent having vivid red hair (barring some hitherto unmentioned Celtic ancestry) is seriously unlikely. Not impossible, but pretty darn close to impossible. She’d be an extremely rare case, and it’d have to be either a real talking point (we all know what overbearing mothers are like, something like that would be a source of intense pride for being so special) or handwaved as normal in-universe.

    Dude, it’s just hair colour.
Quiet, Inner Sarcasm. Inner Pedant and Inner Abby’s Hair Fan are talking.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I’m really glad whenever anyone gives a long thought out post, positive or negative, not that a little constructive criticism is negative! I do really appreciate it though, and i love that you love Abby so much.

That being said, though thematically similar, the new version (which I’ve begun writing! ) is actually a completely different story. It is set ina different world (actually many different worlds! ) so earth and its countries are not very relevant. This means that egypt and romania really wont have any place in her backstory (sorry!). Abby still will, however, have racial ties to similar lands, lands which may or may not allow coppery hair (which i couldnt do justice to in my coloring) which would be very much a possibility, genetics-wise.

I would also like to say that she will most likely begin the story with long hair. May not stay that way though. More later!

    EDIT:
After a long conversation with Anii, who is a firm supporter in original Abby (although with streaks in her hair, for whatever reason) I’d like to apologize. Apparently much of the miscommunication is in the fact that I really don’t draw as well as I can imagine things. Fact is, the reason she looked too much like Divi was because drawing their faces for me results in remarkably similar characters. In my head, she has Abby’s face, expressions, backstory, everything, with the exception that her hair was red. I thought darkening it by at least 6 shades, as well as darkening her skin to make it work, would show the difference, but all it did was look like Divi in low light.

Also it didn’t help that I cut her hair right away, I was just really excited to draw her like that. It was also the only way I could think of artistically to show her as visibly older (did I mention I’m a writer and not an artist?) Also, as we went over, I put her in Divi’s clothes, only because I love those clothes, but all I did was add to the confusion.

I’ll be working on more versions, but I do need everyone to know that as much as I understand how you are attached to the current version you all know, the newer version is in fact a much different story. I honestly feel terrible about doing it, because of, well, mainly the Star Wars prequels, but this isn’t me adding or taking away from the original, or making Anguis shoot first or anything, this is literally a different telling of a different story about the same characters. Think of it more like, I don’t know, The Three Musketeers. There were dozens of versions made throughout the years, all with inconsistencies from one to the next, but most worked on the whole as a story. Some focused on the Cardinal being a Jerk to France. Others still had that, but the King was also a jerk. Others had the King as a kid, and Charlie Sheen as Aramis (which by the way, was my favorite version, obviously for other reasons than Charlie Sheen), and yet others focused on Fabre, including “The Musketeer” which had awesome martial arts, and Fabre was played by Tim Roth, who by the way was amazing. Others had Mickey Mouse.

Anyway, that got away from me a bit (I love the Three Musketeers) but the POINT is that despite all of these versions (including the steampunk one with Orlando Bloom as the Duke, which was pretty bad) the core of the story was still the same, starting with D’Artagnan and the Musketeers.

Honey and the Whirlwind’s core will always be the same.

It’s about magic, and discovery, and the adventure of learning and traveling. Most importantly it’s about friendship, and the magic of that as well. These things aren’t going anywhere. Just because sometimes I can’t make up my mind, doesn’t mean that I’m losing the story. I really hope to give you guys the absolute best I can do.

I hope that’s enough! (Between you and me, I’m still torn about the hair issue. I love both versions so much, but at the end of the day what is important is that her hair is wild, not what color it is. It’s my fault that picture wasn’t good enough at portraying that! I’m working on another.)

    /end rant!

@Kings, I think it is kinda interesting the focus people are putting on hair. People dye their hair all the time. You could easily have her naturally have Abby’s hair color, and she dyes it to Divi’s color. Also, someone changing their hairstyle isn’t the end of the world. I think it would be cool to have the hair be a bit dynamic and change as she develops (including hair dyes!).
